Public & Private Build Configuration

IoT Yocto has a configuration NDA_BUILD that controls if the recipe fetches software from access-controlled “private” repositories that requires valid NDA(non-disclosure agreement), hence the name NDA_BUILD. Starting from IoT Yocto v26.0, these private repositories are hosted by MediaTek in a Gerrit-based service Git01 (https://git01.mediatek.com).

Please refer to MediaTek Git01 Account Setup for the NDA signing process and Git01 account creation.

All the prebuilt images provided in this v26.0 release are built using NDA_BUILD = "1" configuration. These images are also referred to as private build images.

By setting NDA_BUILD = "0", you could still build an IoT Yocto image with packages that are available without explicit access permissions to the MediaTek Git01 NDA repositories. We call this a public build image.

In the public build configuration, some proprietary components are provided in binary-only format, and certain proprietary features are excluded, for example:

  • Security features are excluded, e.g. eFuse writer and eFuse data field access

  • ISP support for RAW sensors and YUV sensors on Genio 510, Genio 700 and Genio 1200 is excluded.

Starting from v24.0 release, we no longer provide prebuilt public images for download and evaluation, as their features are a subset of the private images. The public build configuration is still supported, so developers can build images themselves using the NDA_BUILD = "0" configuration.

You may find the NDA features, binary-released modules and their licensing in IoT Yocto Feature Table (v26.0).

Note

  • You don’t need a Git01 account to download the prebuilt images, but you need to agree to the Software License Agreement.

  • You don’t need a Git01 account to build the public image configurations.

  • You need a Git01 account and a signed NDA with MediaTek to access and build the private image. See MediaTek Git01 Account Setup for the account creation process.

Source Code Download

Important

Please read and agree to the Software License Agreement before accessing or using IoT Yocto software. If you do not agree to the terms and conditions of the Software License Agreement, you must not access or use the software.

To download and build IoT Yocto recipes, please use the rity-scarthgap-v26.0 tag for the repo manifest file:

repo init -u https://gitlab.com/mediatek/aiot/bsp/manifest.git -b refs/tags/rity-scarthgap-v26.0

To fetch source code and build images using these Yocto recipes, please refer to steps in Build from Source Code.

Tools

Genio Tools v1.7.1 is released to support Genio 360 SoC in addition to previously supported Genio SoCs.

You must update Genio Tools to load built images onto Genio 360(P)-EVK boards.

Please refer to Get Started with IoT Yocto and Genio Tools for detailed usage.

Major Software Package Versions

  • Yocto LTS updated from Scarthgap 5.0.12 to 5.0.18

  • Linux kernel updated from 6.6.92 to 6.6.137

  • ATF version kept at v2.6

  • U-Boot version kept at v2022.10

  • OP-TEE version kept at 3.19

  • Mali GPU DDK version kept at r48

Major Changes

IoT Yocto v26.0 introduces support for the Genio 360 / Genio 360P SoC family and continues to update existing platforms.

Genio 360 Support

IoT Yocto v26.0 introduces support for Genio 360 SoC family.

  • Shared BSP

    • Genio 360 (MT8366) and Genio 360P (MT8367) share the same MACHINE configuration in the IoT Yocto recipes.

    • The BSP is delivered as a single-software drop that coexists with the existing Genio 350 / 510 / 700 / 520 / 720 / 1200 BSP support.

    • Only Genio 360(P) EVK P2V3 is supported by IoT Yocto v26.0. Genio 360(P) EVK P2V1 and P2V2 are not supported — DSI display fails to bring up on these earlier revisions.

  • Charger routing

    • Genio 360(P) EVK exposes a two-way jumper between the MT6375 charger (used by the Android BSP) and the RT1715 Type-C PD controller.

    • IoT Yocto v26.0 supports RT1715 only. Customers must set the jumper to the RT1715 path; the MT6375 charger driver is not available in this release.

  • Highlighted enabled features

    • Display: DSI, eDP, DP, and DPoC (DisplayPort over Type-C).

    • Camera: IMX258 and OV5640 sensors via the CAM6S driver. Genio 360 currently supports only YUV sensor data via the camera sensor interface; the ISP hardware pipeline is not enabled in this release, so RAW sensors are limited to sensor-data dump.

    • Connectivity: MT7921 (M.2 Key E, PCIe/SDIO) in addition to the on-board AzureWave AW-XB468NF (Wi-Fi 6 / BT 5.2) module.

    • Peripheral: CAN bus (RS-232 connector).

    • Security: Secure boot with eFuse writer support.

    • Firmware update: A/B firmware update flow, including boot-storage partition layout for the genio-360-evk-norboot machine.

For the complete list of features and per-platform support status, please refer to the feature table document.

Release Channel and Account Changes

NDA source repository migration: MediaTek has migrated the access-controlled IoT Yocto NDA repositories from gitlab.com/mediatek/aiot/nda to the internal https://git01.mediatek.com hosting.

A new helper script scripts/genio-account-setup.py is now symlinked by the repo tool at manifest sync time. Customers can also run it directly from the project root to configure their Git01 credential.

See MediaTek Git01 Account Setup for details.

General BSP Feature Changes

v26.0 also brings updates to other Genio SoCs, EVKs, and shared software features:

  • New or Updated Features in v26.0

    • UFS RPMB access on Genio 520/720/420-EVK:

      • UFS RPMB read/write API is now available from OP-TEE and Linux.

      • RPMB access is also available from U-Boot for provisioning during boot.

    • UFS new part support: Added support for the following parts:

      • SK Hynix HN8T05DJHVX105

      • SanDisk SDINFDO4-128G

      • Longsys FEUDNNO64G-C2G07

      • Biwin BWU2A0516B064G

    • MT7925 Wi-Fi 7 / Bluetooth 5.4 module enablement on Genio 520/720/420-EVK.

      • Supported on the MediaTek MT7925 PCIe module (AzureWave AW-EB600NF).

      • See the feature table for detailed platform coverage.

    • HDMI CEC support on Genio 510/700/1200-EVK.

    • HDMI-RX BT.2020(SDR) colorimetry support on Genio 1200-EVK.

    • V4L2 ISP P1 bypass mode on Genio 720-EVK, enabling 4K@30/60 YUV422 sensor capture without the ISP hardware pipeline.

    • GAI (Generative AI) command-line tool released as part of the Genio 720-EVK software stack.

    • SBOM for boot assets: In addition to the existing rootfs SBOM, the build now emits a separate tarball (<image-name>.bootassets.spdx.tar.zst) containing SPDX documents for kernel and bootloader images. This helps customers meet OSS license compliance requirements for the full software stack, not just what is installed in the rootfs.

Recipe and Packaging Changes (Backwards-incompatible)

Customers with existing recipes, bbappends, or product images should review the following changes before upgrading from v25.1.1 to v26.0:

  • virtual/lk renamed to virtual/download-agent:

The BSP has renamed the virtual/lk provider to virtual/download-agent to prepare for future downlaod agent implementation not based on LK. Any custom bbappend, image recipe, or preferred-provider configuration that referenced virtual/lk must be updated to virtual/download-agent.

  • APU / NeuroPilot driver package split:

mtk-apusys-driver has been split into two separate packages (kernel driver + firmware / middleware). Product recipes that install the APU stack by explicit package name may need to add the new companion package, or switch to the packagegroup-rity-mtk-neuropilot package group which has been updated to pull both.

  • NOR-flash layout changes:

The fip partition has been expanded to 3 MB for 16 MB NOR flash. Customers flashing custom NOR-boot images built from earlier releases must re-generate the partition layout to match.

Out of Scope Features

  • IoT Yocto does not provide an out-of-the-box battery management and charging control framework. Since battery management policies are highly dependent on the application scenario, we recommend adopting 3rd party battery charging solutions.
